Echefu Joshua Chidozie has been inaugurated as the Coordinator of the Grassroots Sports Federation (GRASOF), Abia State.

The inauguration event took place at Rapha Hotel in Umuahia on Saturday. This is after his appointment was ratified at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the body held at the same hotel on Friday.

It was a colourful event which had the National President, John Ekpenyong in attendance, alongside; Ada Gwegwe, Organizing Secretary, Harrison Iyomana, National Technical Director, Mazi Jaka, South East Coordinator.

Speaking to the press after his inauguration, Chidozie expressed happiness with his appointment and acknowledged that it is a call to service. He also spoke about what his administration will do for grassroots sports in the state.

“We are going to activate so many things that have not been in place. By the special grace of God I know that we’ll have a very bright start. I know we have people around who will work hand in gloves with us to achieve our goals. A lot is coming up.

“So many angles that have been left untouched will be activated.

“We will gradually build an enabling environment to accommodate other sports. About 80 percent of the activities in sports here in the South-East are focused on football.

“But we will work to enable us to have the enabling environment for other sports like; swimming, tennis, scrable. We will collaborate with the Government to see how we will develop these sports in the state,” he concluded.

GRASOF has the responsibility to develop grassroots sports and to unearth talents through various programs.
