A goal in each half by Sodiq Rilwan and Yusuf Fantami handed the People’s Elephants a second loss in the league.

The visitors took the attack to the hosts early on in the game and saw the nine-time champions with a chance when Johna nodded Peculiar’s throw in over the bar. Richard Christopher unleashed a shot too in the 17th minute from outside the box jut his effort went off the target.

The hosts scared the Elephants but Utum Godswill rose to the occasion in the 20th minute. Wonah Williams moved the ball around the Doma box and shot on goal but his effort went inches off.

Sadiq Rilwan broke the deadlock when he scored his third goal of the season. He calmed his nerves to slot past the impressive Godswill. Williams responded with a fine shot after dancing his way out of a cloud of blue shirts and shot on goal but Pius Ibrahim tipped it over the bar.

Williams again, terror-in-chief cut in from the left in the 58th minute and shot straight to goal but his effort was blocked.

The Elephants took over possession in search of an equaliser but the hosts scored another goal in the 75th minute, pouncing on a rebound from Bitrus Philimenon’s free kick.

Undeterred, the Elephants kept knocking on the door and came close again in the 86th minute when Williams chested a flip from Richards and shot on goal but his effort was blocked. Pius Ibrahim stretched in the dying moments to keep off a fine effort from Egbe Charles.

Next for the Elephants is their first home against Inter Lagos next Sunday.
