To improve their standing ahead of the World Athletics Relays, Nigeria’s relay squad will compete in the Lefika International Relays in Botswana on March 28, 2026.
The National Stadium will host the competition, which will act as a warm-up for the 2026 World Relays, which will be held in Gaborone from May 2–3.
Nigeria, Botswana, Poland, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho have also been confirmed to participate in the rapidly growing Lefika Relays.
The relays will be held on African land for the first time this year. Teams from Nigeria are anticipated to compete in the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relays.
With a performance of 3:31.14 at the MTN Champs Athletics Classics in Calabar on March 7, the nation’s women’s 4x400m team has already earned a spot in the World Relays. At that point, the team moved up to number 22 in the world rankings, pushing Mexico out of the top 24.
