I am still trying to wrap my head around the internal power struggle that has been brewing at Enyimba Football Club. It’s a tale of greed, selfishness, and the lust for power that has driven some officials to sabotage the club’s progress.

The latest reports point to a deep-seated hatred between these officials even those in the government house against the club’s current Chairman, Amb. Kanu Nwankwo, who has been at the helm since 2023.

If I’m being honest, it all started to unravel last season when some officials, who have built their empires on the back of Enyimba’s success, began to feel threatened by Kanu’s leadership style. They saw him as a potential game-changer, someone who could bring much-needed reforms and transparency to the club. But instead of embracing change, they resorted to the most diabolical tactics to undermine his efforts.

They went as far as sabotaging matches, manipulating officials, and even stealing matchday funds allocated to other team staff and officials. Yes, you heard that right – stealing! It’s a crime that’s hard to stomach, especially when you consider that these officials have been embezzling money meant for other staff members, leaving them to struggle financially. And yet, they have the audacity to call themselves “Patriotic Enyimba fans”.

Their selfishness knows no bounds. They’re more interested in lining their own pockets with Enyimba’s money than in working towards the club’s success. It’s a sad state of affairs, and one that has left a trail of devastation in its wake. The fans, who have been loyal to the club for years, are now confused and disillusioned by the antics of these officials.

Reports has it that most of the deals signed by Kanu Nwankwo for Enyimba has been truncated because of internal sabotage especially from those who are more concerned about bringing down Kanu rather than helping Enyimba to succeed. The question is which is more important? The success of Enyimba or Stomach Infrastructure?

As the drama unfolds, it’s clear that Enyimba’s future hangs in the balance. The fans will not stand idly by while their beloved club is torn apart by the very people who are supposed to be leading it. The state governor Dr. Alex Otti should stamp his authority and tell those who are trying to sabotage the efforts of Kanu Nwankwo to stand down or get out.

This is Enyimba, The team has never been under the table of any Commissioner of Sports since inception of the club and those who are pushing for such right now should stand down and work together for the success of the club and Kanu Nwankwo.
