William Troost-Ekong, captain of the Super Eagles has announced that the team has called off their strike and will return to training on Wednesday evening.
The defender revealed this in a post on his X handle on Wednesday afternoon. The captain has earlier posted that the team went on strike because of a bonus dispute with the NFF.
“Issue resolved. Outstanding financials cleared and on ground. The team is united and focussed as before on representing Nigeria with our maximum for the games ahead,” Ekong tweeted.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) on Wednesday waded into the bonus row and settled the matter with the players ahead of the crucial tie with Gabon on Thursday. On Tuesday, 23 players in camp boycotted training to make demands of the Nigeria Football Federation.
The game between the Super Eagles and the Panthers of Gabon kicks off at 5pm on Thursday in Rabat. The winner of the tie will face the winner of the Cameroon vs DR Congo tie in the final
