Kelechi Mejuobi, Acting President of the Nigeria Football Referees Association (NFRA) says the FIFA member associations course for the referees is to develop the referees.
Mejuobi spoke when he appeared on NTA 24’s AM Sports. He explained the scope of the training program and hinted that it would further prepare the referees physically and mentally and to aid their career growth.
“The FIFA member association course is for young talent referees and for beach soccer referees. For the young talent referees, they are those who have obtained their grade one, officiating at the lower cadre of the leagues like the NLO, NNL and the women league.
“The NRA and NFF are working in tandem to develop the referees. This is a program packaged by FIFA through the NFF. It is a capacity workshop.”
He revealed that the process is monitored in order to maintain the integrity of the program.
“It starts with medical fitness and physical fitness before classroom and field work. Before any referee appears on the field to officiate a game, he must have proper training.”
The course is held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
