The Abia State Government has condoled the family of a commercial motorcyclist in Aba. A press release from the Government reads

Abia State Ministry of Works received with shock and sadness the unfortunate news of the death of one Mr Vitalis Ibeanu, a commercial motorcyclist (Okada rider) who was trying to navigate through an active project site in the night after a torrential rain fall that flooded the area.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed his deep condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and has directed the ministry to ensure total compliance with relevant safety measures by contractors and members of the public to prevent similar occurrence.

It is most unconscionable for any politician to attempt to make political capital out of the unfortunate fate of any citizen.

We wish to strongly advise members of the public to avoid active project sites and obey caution notices installed by contractors. While we continue to work to maximize the current dry season window to execute as much of our ongoing projects as possible, we are not unmindful of the fact that it will lead to temporary discomfort to road users and members of the public and, therefore, wish to appeal for patience and vigilance from all and sundry.

Staff of the state ministry of works are actively monitoring all ongoing construction projects in the state and will continue to work with relevant agencies of the state to delineate diversions for human and vehicular traffic, where necessary.
