Kobbie Mainoo scored the winner for Manchester United against Liverpool, a goal confirmed United’s place in next season’s Champions League.

United scored twice before the break, courtesy of goals from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. However, Liverpool rose to the occasion and equalized, setting the tone for an epic clash at Old Trafford.

Dominik Szoboslai and Cody Gakpo leveled for Liverpool, capitalizing on errors to level. Liverpool also failed to clear their lines and Luke Shawn’s cross feel for Mainoo who lashed onto it to place the ball into the bottom and wheeled away in ecstasy.

Mainoo just signed a new contract to keep him longer at the club. His previous contract was to expire in 2027 before he signed a new five-year contract.

United have been away from the Champions League for two years and this returns caps an impressive run for Michael Carrick who is managing the side on interim capacity. Liverpool still need four points to confirm their spot in the Champions League next season.
