Rivers United got their first point in this season’s CAF Champions League with a 0-0 draw with Power Dynamos on Saturday.

The Pride of Rivers came into the game in search of their first point in the campaign but they barely caused any scare for the home side.

Osagie Onisodumeya was the hero for the former Nigerian champions with brilliant saves. Onisodumeya denied Eddie Ankobo in the 10th minute and also saved Chifundo Mphasi’s shot eleven minutes later to keep his side in the game.

The home side continued to press in search of goal and Prince Mumba thought his ferocious shot was heading to the net only for Onisodumeya to deny him an opener.

After the break, Rivers United had to keep it tight at the back as Power Dynamos came out in search of a goal. In the 75th minute, Moses Shummah rose high to connect to a cross from Kondwani Chiboni but his header came off the upright, to the relief of Finidi George and his boys.

Moses Shummah came close again in the 84th minute with a fine volley in the box but Onisodumeya stretched to keep it out and he made himself big to deny Innocent Kashita a chance to shoot on goal.

Rivers United held on to get their first point in the competition. They are now third on the table, having scored one goal more than bottom placed Power Dynamos.
