The President of the Association of Igbo Town Unions in the South East, Chief Emeka Diwe, has urged people of the South East to support the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and its bid to reposition the region and make it thrive.
In a chat with newsmen in Aba, Chief Diwe said the commission’s establishment is timely, and if well led, will improve the living standards of people living in the region.
He called on wealthy people from the region to come home and help develop the region in the area of infrastructure, transportation and power. He also stated that these three areas of development are what the commission should also focus on and if they succeed, they will get the massive support of the town unions.
“We are giving the Development Commission these three assignments, if they are able to achieve it, we will all march out and sing hallelujah for them. I will march all the Town Unions in the South East to come out and tell them that they’re doing well.”
The formation of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) has become of interest to people of the region after the bill establishing it was assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The SEDC is led by Dr. Emeka Nworgu as Chairman and Mark Okoye as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Commission while Hon. Chris Nkwocha is the Chairman, House Committee on the SEDC.
Chief Diwe said the Chairman of the Commission is one person he can vouch for and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver.
“That is one person I can vouch for because I know him very well, his background and his antecedents. I know he has listening ears and he is too close to us. I have implicit confidence in him that he will deliver.”
The aims of the Commission include; Civil restitution, tackling of erosion, restoration of security, infrastructure among others.
