Today, as we celebrate Workers’ Day, I am filled with immense pride and appreciation for the unwavering dedication and resilience displayed by workers in Abia State and all across Nigeria. In the face of daunting economic challenges, workers have continued to trudge on. The wage for workers Labour is hardly able to guarantee subsistence living yet workers have been resilient and have consistently pressed on.
This is a note of appreciation to workers in Abia and a word of encouragement that ultimately there would be reward for your Labour.
It is gratifying to note that the current administration in Abia has largely lived up to its promise to pay workers more promptly than was the case in previous administrations and have further kept faith with our retirees by through renewed commitment to the payment of pensions.
Workers are the backbone of our society, the lifeblood of our economy, and the energy that drives governance. Without their dedication and hard work, the very fabric of our nation would crumble. It is imperative that we recognize the importance of workers and take concrete steps to safeguard their well-being and ensure that they are able to lead dignified and fulfilling lives.
Whilst noting the efforts so far, a lot can still be done and leaving the wage level as it currently stands given the diminution in purchasing power resulting from devaluation inflation and fuel subsidy removal is unacceptable.
Given the recent increases in government revenue, it is unjustifiable for workers remuneration to remain as it has been.
I trust that His Excellency the Governor would give further consideration to the perennial plight of Abia workers and do the needful.
To all our workers in Abia State and across the country here’s wishing you a happy workers day. You are all immensely appreciated and cherished. Please be encouraged to continue to put in your best for the development of our state and country.
Happy Workers’ Day!
