Enyimba’s Media Officer, David Orji was reportedly assaulted by officials of Lobi Stars FC on Sunday in the game between Lobi Stars and Enyimba.

An eyewitness who spoke to Igulafrica.com said trouble started when the Chairman of Lobi Stars walked some journalists out of the stadium and David Orji came out of the dressing room to see what was happening and the Chairman of Lobi Stars directed that he be chased out of the stadium. Even after he was identified as the visiting team’s media officer by Finidi George, he was still about to be bundled out but the Chief Security Officer of the league who was at the venue intervened.

During the game proper, someone approached Enyimba’s camera man and ordered him to stop recording and to move away from the position. The media officer intervened and this led to arguments and David was slapped, his shirt and trousers torn and he was bundled down the staircase.

Barely 24 hours to the game, Lobi Stars released a statement saying the game would be played behind closed doors because of the plan of “enemies of the club.”

When Igulafrica.com contacted David Orji for a comment, he declined a formal comment.
