Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has approved 90 Million Naira for payment of salaries owed Enyimba FC, from March to May, 2023.

This was made known to pressmen by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth and Sports, who also doubles as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Chinedu Ekeke on Tuesday, when Aba-based Sports Journalists paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Umuahia.

Mr Ekeke said the Government is aware of the situation at the club and declared that the time for change has come, as can be seen from the body language of the Government.

He revealed that shortly after the Government was inaugurated on May 29, it came to the attention of Government that the club had no means to travel to Lagos for the NPFL Super 6. The State Governor quickly facilitated the release of funds for the People’s Elephants and the release of a second tranche in order to ease logistic burdens in Lagos.

Enyimba won the tournament and became champions of the NPFL for the 9th time.

According to Mr Ekeke, the State Ministry of Sports have raised vouchers for payment and the Ministry of Finance is currently processing the release of the funds and soon, all pending salaries would be cleared.
