In an attempt to resolve the crisis that emanated from the just concluded factionalized National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ekiti State elective Congress, the Honourable Commissioner For Youths And Sports Development, Micheal Awopetu set up a 5 man committee members to include Mr. Ganiyu Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development as Chairman, Professor Adeusi (first chairman of NYCN in Ekiti State) member, Chief Mrs Adebayo (current NYCN BOT chairman, Ekiti state) member, Rev. Bankoke Obim (NYCN BOT member) member and Mr Adesoye Odunayo, Director of Youth Development and the secretary of the committee, to look into the matter and to come up with an harmonized list for the two factions.
The Committee invited the two persons laying claim to the position of chairman of the council Mr Famuyibo Oluwasegeun and Mr Bankole Oluwasegun were both invited accordingly.
On the second day of the committee sitting, Mr. Bankole Oluwasegeun who is a civil servant working as a protocol officer with Ekiti State Government and who is also one of the self acclaimed chairman of the Council in dispute came to the ministry with hire thugs and hoodlums to beat ministry staffs and brandishing cutlasses and charms before them.
The Committee reconvened after the ugly scenerios and invited the duo of Mr Famuyibo Oluwasegun and Mr Bankole Oluwasegun to have an amicable resolution,thereafter, the committee decided to call them one after the other for peace to reign.
Mr Bankole came inside to narrate his own side of the story and promised to abide by whatever decision being taken by the committee members and equally promised not to allow his supporters to forment trouble after the resolution of the committee members,record are there to support my claim.
The Committee resolved and harmonized the two factions while Comr. Famuyibo Oluwasegun as Chairman and Mr Bankole Oluwasegeun as Deputy Chairman respectively.
This decision were made due to undertaken by the person’s involved in the dispute and also the Committee relied on the vote cast by four committee members excluding the chairman of the committee.
After the voting, three members voted for Mr. Famuyibo Oluwasegeun while one person voted for Mr. Bankole Oluwasegeun and lastly, the Committee equally relied on the list forwarded to the Honourable Commissioner by the electoral chairman and minuted to the committee despite that the committee still accommodated the other group on the harmonized list by the committee members.
However, the harmonized list was approved by the committee and sent to the radio stations for public service announcement.
It was today (yesterday) a group led by one Mr Sunday Asefon a former NANS President who are loyal to Mr. Bankole Oluwasegeun mobilized thugs with dangerous weapons to the Ministry as usual to disrupt public peace and made an assassination attempt on the Hon. Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Michael Awopetu, the permanent Secretary of the Ministry Mr. Ganiyu Ibrahim, while others were threatened including Mr Adesoye Odunayo the secretary of the committee and also double as Director Youth Development, Mr Oluyemi Joshua, Director Sports Development and Mr Oguntuase John Oludayo, Senior Youth Development Officer.
