The Super Falcons of Nigeria were given a rousing red carpet welcome at the Sofitel Luxury Hotel in Brisbane after their historic victory against Co-hosts, Australia on Thursday.
The Falcons met a deluge of fans from across Africa who formed a guard of honour for them as they walked through the red carpet with the fans saying “congratulations. You made the continent proud.”
The Super Falcons, ranked 40th in the world, stunned Australia, ranked 10th in the world in front of over 40,000 Australian fans to sit on top of the table in group B of the FIFA Women’s World.
Uchenna Kanu, Osinachi Ohale and Asisat Oshoala scored for the Falcons, leading them to a 3-2 victory against the tournament favourites
