Nigeria’s Fikayo Tomori will replace David Luiz at Chelsea. This is against the backdrop of a deadline day drama which saw David Luiz force a move away from Chelsea to Arsenal.
Tomori was hours away from signing for Everton on loan, but Chelsea put his loan move to Marco Silva’s side on hold following David Luiz’s departure and the deal collapsed. This left Chelsea’s Manager, Frank Lampard, with fewer options in defence.
Frank Lampard knows Tomori well having been his coach at Derby County when he played at the Rams last season on loan from Chelsea.
Tomori, a Chelsea Academy graduate, made 55 appearances for Derby County and was awarded Derby County’s player of the season. According to Evening Standard, Chelsea will give him a new contract. His current contract expires in 2021 and Chelsea’s transfer ban means they will have to keep him.
He will be given a new contract at Chelsea in the coming weeks. The Evening Standard report says that Frank Lampard admires him and will give him a key role to compete with Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Kourt Zouma. http://www.bellsnews.com/sports/u20-womens-world-cup-absence-of-world-cup-in-the-south-east-a-disaster/
He will join Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Reece James as players who can fit in to Frank Lampard’s team courtesy of the transfer ban. He played 26 games for Hull City in the 2017-2018 season on loan.
Fikayo Tomori is eligible to play for Nigeria. He was born in Canada by Nigerian parents and grew up in England. He has played for the Canadian U-20 side and the English U-19 team where made the team of the tournament. He has also featured for England at the U-20 world cup.
The deal collapse with Everton has unsettled Marco Silva who wishes to strengthen his defense despite the signing of defensive midfield stalwart, Fabian Delph and Gbamin.
