Super Eagles defender Benjamin Tanimu has honoured Nigerian Air Force officers who died in the NAF931 jet crash by dedicating his goal and Man of the Match award to the fallen servicemen.

Tanimu delivered an impressive performance on Friday evening, scoring in the 44th minute to help his team earn a valuable away point against Dodoma Jiji FC in their Tanzania League Matchday 7 encounter.

The Nigerian defender’s contribution proved crucial as his team secured a positive result on the road, with his individual display earning him the Man of the Match award.

However, beyond his achievement on the pitch, Tanimu used the occasion to pay tribute to the officers who lost their lives while serving the country.

In a post on his official X account after the match, the Super Eagles defender described the achievement as a special moment before dedicating his goal and award to the deceased officers.

“I dedicate this goal and award to my dear friends who FELL IN THE LINE OF DUTY while serving our Fatherland. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Tanimu wrote.

He concluded his message with an emotional farewell to the fallen heroes, writing: “REST WELL, GALLANT HEROES!”

Tanimu’s tribute brought a deeply personal touch to his match-winning contribution, turning a moment of football recognition into an opportunity to honour the memory of Nigerian military personnel who lost their lives in service to the nation.
