Enyimba’s coach, Emmanuel Deutcsh, defender Chibueze Damian and goalkeeper, Dede Dare were named in NPFL Insider’s team of the week.
The People’s Elephant, needing redemption after losing their opening four games, went to Kano to begin a revival with hard-fought 0-0 draw against Kano Pillars who were in fine form. Deutcsh masterminded a masterclass which led the fans to give his team an ovation at full time.
The manager made five changes to the travelling team, including changing the central defenders, tweaking the team to find stability in midfield and attack. This earned him a spot in the team as manager of the week.
Chibueze Damian was also named in the team of the week after a stellar defensive performance. He started in Minna against Niger Tornadoes and did not make the team in subsequent three games but got the nod of the manager, to pair Emeka Onyema.
Chibueze was everywhere at the Sani Abacha Stadium, making timely interventions, clearances and tackles to help the side get a clean sheet.
Dede was the talking point of the Matchday. The experienced goalkeeper made the squad for the fifth time this season but started for the first time in Kano, making stunning saves to give the Elephants a point.
Dare was also awarded Player of the Match by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kano State Chapter for his performance.
Enyimba’s performance in Kano deservedly earned the team three names in the team of the week.
